Floe Lake Hiking & Camping

Floe lake was one of those places that sat on my list for a long time. A popular camp spot that books up early, I had prioritized other hikes in the 2022 season. Somehow in August a very lucky cancellation arose under 1 condition: it was the middle of the week. My partner and I knew we had to snag the opportunity so the day was booked off work and my partner and I headed out.

Summer hiking in the Canadian Rockies

Quick stats:

  • Location: Kootenay National Park

  • Distance: Approx. 20km roundtrip

  • Elevation Approx. 950m.

  • Camping: Tent spots available via Parks Canada

It was a hot, fairly uneventful hike. The landscape was super interesting as it went through forests previously hit with wildfires however. The last climb is a bit of a grind with heavy packs(we are always bringing too much gear) but was absolutely worth it. We watched the sun set until the stars came out and went for a quick sleep before being out for sunrise again. It felt like a quick overnighter but so grateful to knock this one off the bucket list!

A really cool perspective of sunrise / sunset / night
