What is an Elopement and why you should have one (Pandemic Proof Wedding)

Elopement Galapagos

Maybe you had a wedding that has been cancelled or postponed due to the Pandemic situation in 2020. Maybe, you were in the midst of planning your wedding day and now feel uncertain due to these times.

Or.. Maybe- traditional weddings aren’t your style but you still want to get married to your special someone.

Now what?

“Eloping” is something that many are considering and it is perhaps gaining popularity due to the times we are in.. which I love.. But also I feel a lot of people have misconceptions about eloping in the first place - So what is it even?

Did running away in the back of a rented car in a Vegas Chapel in secret come to your mind?

Think again

An elopement is an intimate, curated wedding experience that is authentic to and focused on the couple.

Elopements are a way to get married which involves you, maybe some of your closest people, getting married somewhere meaningful to you.  The ocean, the mountains.. Your backyard.. Wherever really. You customize the day to reflect who you are as a couple.

Similar terms could include Intimate weddings, and destination weddings. Regardless - modern day elopements are planned, thoughtful, (but not necessarily stressful.)  Lets go for mellow. Personally, my elopements are for anything considered 20 people and under.

What it is not:

  • Running away from the people you love (But CAN be just the two of you)

  • Hiking a 20km mountain (unless that’s your jam- Hiking elopments are cool too!)

  • Only for the 2 of you (It can be an intimate ceremony with important people surrounding you)

  • 1 hour long photoshoot (it is MORE than a photoshoot.. think of a traditional wedding. The photographer is there to capture your special DAY)

Your own traditions can start here.

It IS intentional experience for this timeless memory

It provides the opportunity to still have a wedding that will fall within the rules during these times.  Even once the pandemic situation has settled, I still believe elopements are a really beautiful way to celebrate love in a way that is crafted to the couple.   Although this intimate style might not be for everyone- It is definitely an option if you want to get married in this near  future!

So because it is just as special, valuable, and curated as a traditional wedding.. What does it look like?

That is the thing.. It can be whatever you want it to be! An 8 hour coverage day could be  8:00am(or earlier)-3:00pm or 1:00-9:00pm

Let’s do an example-

0700: get ready while I take photos and chit chat

7-10:00 First look and sunrise hike

10:00- Ceremony somewhere with gorgeous views

11:00-1:00pm: have a picnic eating your favourite snacks,

1:00-3:00pm- Pop some champagne, get some photos, head back to your house or a cabin to enjoy the rest of your day

—————————————————————————-

1:00pm: Get ready in an air bnb, or if you are adventurous- in the car!

2:00-3:00pm: Photos taking in beautiful lake views with your pet and a first look Ceremony at 2

4:00pm: An option for ceremony here.Start of some sunset pictures and exploring before heading back for dinner.
